Where do you work?
I’m a PGY-3 in the UIHC Psychiatry Residency. My week is currently split between multiple outpatient clinics. In addition to the UIHC Adult clinic, I spend time at the Coralville VA clinic, UIHC Child & Adolescent clinic, Intellectual Disability-Mental Illness (IDMI) clinic, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) clinic, and a telepsychiatry clinic that serves patients at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqau.

Typical day in your shoes?
It varies a lot. Most days I’m seeing patients, teaching medical students & myself, gathering collateral & talking with other clinicians, writing formulations & determining treatment plans, and, at the end of the day, doing considerably more paperwork than I had imagined.

What advice would you give yourself if you could go back to year 1 in your profession?
Always be reliable, professional, and kind to the people you work with. Trust the process and acknowledge what you don’t know. There is tremendous value in an empty cup, because it has room to be filled.

What is your go to midnight snack?
There will never be a better midnight snack than cheese & crackers.

What recipe do you make that could be a top seller on a restaurant menu?
Depending on the season, either my lemon asparagus pasta or butternut squash & mushroom risotto.

If you had to change jobs tomorrow, what is another job you think you’d be great at?
A math teacher, because I love explaining things, breaking complex problems into smaller, more manageable ones, and I’ve always been a huge math nerd.
