Fellowship/Distinguished Fellowship

https://www.psychiatry.org/Membership/Honorary-Fellowship/DFAPAIPPS’s Membership Committee encourages General Members to work toward achieving Fellow and Distinguished Fellow status during the course of their careers.

Fellow status is an honorary designation that was created by the APA to recognize early career members who have demonstrated allegiance to their profession and commitment to the on-going work of the Association. Fellow status is often perceived as one of the first steps to enhancement of professional credentials. Fellows are recognized by their colleagues in the APA as a member of a select group and are permitted to use the FAPA designation on all of their professional documentation. Members apply directly to APA for this status.

The esteemed designation of Distinguished Fellow honors those members whose professional accomplishments have been widely recognized by peers and colleagues. Achieving Distinguished Fellow status marks a significant milestone in the career of an APA/IPPS member. It is the highest membership honor the APA bestows upon members. “Excellence, not mere competence, is the hallmark of an APA Distinguished Fellow.”  Distinguished Fellows are nominated by the IPPS Membership Committee.
